Below you will find a few of the most common paranormal FAQs that our clients and most people want to know about hauntings, haunted houses, ghosts, and paranormal investigations.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A GHOST?
Depending on who you ask, you'll get several answers. There's the definition of ghosts given by Webster's Dictionary. There's the general term used by most people. There's the typical view of a ghost floating around in a white sheet. There are many different definitions. But one thing we have to remember is to not confuse Hollywood's fictional view with the logical. We believe a ghost is the energy and spirit (or soul) of a person who has passed away and is either stuck between the veils of existence, unable to cross over for some reason or have chosen to stay on our level of existence by choice. The reasons why or how ghosts are here truly remains a mystery. The best we can do is to make educated guesses and well-formed opinions based on years of researched information and documented evidence.Below you will find a few of the most common paranormal FAQs that our clients and most people want to know about hauntings, haunted houses, ghosts, and paranormal investigations.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I FEEL MY HOME OR BUSINESS MAY BE HAUNTED OR EXPERIENCING UNUSUAL ACTIVITY?
Our advice for people experiencing paranormal activity is to make sure you seek the advice of a trusted and experienced paranormal team. Do not attempt to investigate your own home. This can result in making your situation worse. Stay away from teams who "guarantee" to remove a spirit from your home, especially for a fee. There are no guarantees in this field. Anyone claims to have all the answers probably, in reality, has none or very few. What you can do is keep a log of the activity that is happening. Write down the time of day or night that the occurrences take place. Even if it seems trivial or insignificant write it down. Explain exactly what event occurred and any witnesses that might have experienced the incident. Then if you do decide to have someone do an investigation the activity log will help them greatly.
HAS THE PARANORMAL EVER BEEN PROVEN?
No, and it probably never will be. In order to scientifically prove something, you have to conduct your experiment in a controlled environment and have the event repeat with the same results over and over again. Paranormal activity or ghosts do not perform on command and therefore will most likely never be scientifically proven.
CAN GHOSTS HURT PEOPLE?
Over the last two-hundred years of notations on paranormal reports in North America, there are only two documented cases of ghosts being “accused” of physically harming people that have been somewhat validated by third-party neutral authorities and even then it’s somewhat sketchy. One is the death of John Bell in relation to the "Bell Witch" case in Tennessee in 1817. The other is the attacks on a woman known as "The Entity" case from California in the 1970s.
These cases were not only studied by people “involved” in the paranormal field as such but medical authorities and other people with reasonably related credentials to what they were looking into. Even they are questioned to this day on some of their practices. So, using these reliable statistics, you're more likely to be struck by lightning or winning a million dollars in a lottery twice in your lifetime are greater than being hurt, injured, or killed by a ghost.
Even some cases that say a "ghost" hurt a person do not stand up well to absolute scrutiny and honestly, there is not a single case that offers absolute proof that a spirit caused physical harm to a human. You're more likely to hurt yourself from your own fear than being harmed by a paranormal entity.
CAN ANYONE GUARANTEE TO GET RID OF A HAUNTING?
Absolutely not! Don't fall for anyone that guarantees they can get rid of a spirit. This is just plain BULL and these people are frauds in every sense. Nobody can guarantee their paranormal service or investigation will be successful. Nobody can guarantee that they can get rid of any spirit. Besides that, most paranormal groups are there to research and investigate the claims, not get rid of a haunting.
I THINK MY HOME MAY BE HAUNTED. HOW CAN I KNOW FOR SURE?
Sometimes that can be a tough question to answer. Some people are very sensitive and can just "feel" the presence of a spirit or can tell something is not quite right. Other signs may be abnormal noises, such as loud distinct knocks or bangs, scratching on walls or ceilings, objects being moved without human interaction, faint clouds, or mists, shadows that can't be easily explained or apparitions. Hauntings are sometimes difficult to recognize, especially since most houses have natural noises such as creaking or popping sounds. Shadows can be naturally occurring as well. Statistically, about 80% of signs of a haunting can be explained as natural or environmental occurrences.
I HAVE SEEN PARANORMAL WEBSITES WITH TEAM MEMBERS THAT ARE CERTIFIED PARANORMAL INVESTIGATORS. SHOULD I CONSIDER THEM OVER SOMEONE WHO IS NOT CERTIFIED?
No, there is no such thing as a certified paranormal investigator. There are NO experts in this field. There are places online where you can apply and take a home study course and become a Certified Paranormal Investigator with your very own laminated identification card and will only cost you from $50.00 to $75.00.
You can go one step further and get a Paranormal Science Doctoral Degree self-paced home study course for the small sum of only $1,265.00. At best, you get a basic background in paranormal research including, How to Talk to Clients, How to use the Equipment, and Evidence Analysis and Collection etc. etc. etc. You can get this information on the internet for free just by doing a search.
These places are “degree mills”, they claim 30+ year history in the field and have a very impressive looking letterhead. They have no accreditation and no respect in the paranormal community.
WHAT IS AN APPARITION?
An apparition is a visual appearance or manifestation of a spirit or any unusual visual phenomena that may or may not necessarily take the shape of a human form. An apparition can be that of a ghost that has manifested or the shadowy image of someone who has passed away.
WHAT ARE ORBS WHEN RELATED TO THE PARANORMAL?
Many people including some paranormal investigators believe that these little spherical shaped balls of energy are our dearly departed loved ones. Actually, they are not balls of energy at all as some paranormal Television shows want you to believe.
The majority of paranormal researchers agree that photographic orbs are nothing more than dust, bugs, moisture, pollen or other totally explainable natural elements floating around in the air.
So, if you take a photo and see orbs in your home, don't think that your house is haunted by anything other than dust bunnies. Orbs usually appear in digital still photography when a flash is used. The flash reflects off of the orb and creates what appears to be a ball of light.
HOW DO I CONVINCE SOMEONE (SPOUSE, FRIEND, FAMILY, ETC.) THAT THE PARANORMAL IS REAL?
You’re not going to convince anyone that doesn’t believe in the paranormal. Many people with closed minds especially when it comes to ghosts, spirits, and the like will never believe anything about this phenomenon. They always have an explanation for everything no matter what it is whether it makes sense or not. However, sometimes all it takes is one paranormal experience for that skeptic to turn into a believer.
WHAT DO GHOSTS WANT?
This is one of those questions that is very hard to answer and is very subjective. Maybe they want to be validated just like the rest of us. Perhaps they have unfinished business and somehow want your help. Maybe their passing was so quick they do not know that they are no longer among the living. They may have a message for someone and want your help to deliver it. They could merely not want to leave a place they were happy or safe, or they could be trapped here by love, loneliness, guilt, tragedy or some other strong human emotion that has not died. It is very possible; you may never know the answer to this question.
WHY DO PARANORMAL INVESTIGATORS OR GHOST HUNTERS CONDUCT THEIR CASES AT NIGHT?
First of all, there is a difference between Paranormal Investigations and Ghost Hunting. Although it may seem like the same thing, there is a big difference between the two in the methodology and objectives of each one.
Paranormal Investigations are performed by a team who sets out to collect evidence to prove or disprove claims or suggestions of paranormal activity. This is typically performed as a result of a client requesting assistance in validating or debunking claims of paranormal experiences at their location.
Ghost hunting refers to setting out to find proof of the after-life based on paranormal activity. This is typically done in a location previously deemed as active or haunted.
Now to answer the question. Paranormal Research Organization will investigate during the day as well as at night depending on when the activity is taking place.
A popular reason for investigating at night is that there are fewer stimuli. Examples would be, cars passing by outside, noisy humans rushing around screaming at their children or yelling at the dog to get out of the flowerbeds or Frank across the street mowing his lawn. The darkness also allows us to see the difference between shadows and light. Reflections are reduced, our senses are heightened and more aware of our surroundings, and we can notice any sound, and see any moving entity. This is simply sensory deprivation and it does work and the reasons are actually very practical.
